Tutorial – DIY rolag or punis from combed top braid

Here’s a quick video tutorial on vine Rolags in 6 seconds

 

 

 

 

  1. Break up your combed top braid into staple length segments; I separated my segments by color in order to spin a gradient.

  2. Continue breaking up each segment into its natural staple length, laying all tufts of fiber in a parallel pile.

  3. Pick 5 to 8 tufts at random and arranged them in a row.

  4. Pat the tufts down to compact them with each other.

  5. Using a smooth, small diameter dowel – in a pinch I used the removable handle from a wooden spatula from my kitchen! – tightly roll the fiber around your dowel.

  6. Slip the rolag off the dowel in one smooth motion and now you have a rolag ready for long draw spinning!
